Printer Driver Installing in Windows XP


"I am trying to install a printer on a Windows XP SP3 machine and I get the following message: "Printer driver was not installed. The computer cannot create a file when that file already exists." This happens when a computer user attempted to install an old DeskJet (LPT) and a new DeskJet (USB) to his computer. It seems that the old printer driver is causing problem. The suggestion for this is first try to uninstall 123.hp.com the old driver, and install the new driver, check if error comes again. Otherwise, try to install it in a different path, but don't take the default installation path. And also DeskJet (LPT) can be installed with windows default driver. In order to uninstall the old driver: Go to Start, click "Printers and Faxes" from Control panel->select "File" menu in the pop-up window, select "Server Properties" and remove the old driver in "Drivers" tab (you will see a list of the printer drivers you have installed on the computer) ->click on the driver corresponds to the printer you are trying to re-install in the box and click "Remove" button to begin. Then shut down all the panes that are opened and restart the computer. After that, install the printer again. Alternatively, if you are using printer installation CDs/disks, check it is for Windows XP? If it is an old printer that you are trying to install, the disk may not have the drivers for XP on it 123.hp.com/setup. The best way to install a printer driver for users with windows XP is to simply use "Add a Printer" wizard in the "Printers and Faxes" window. Do not use an installation disk. Windows XP has most printer drivers listed. If the driver is not listed you will need to find the Windows XP Driver from internet.
